Spirit Of Flowers Header

Upon graduating from Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY in 1978 with degrees in Art History and French, Susan Cicconi headed to Paris where she enrolled in an art history program at the Ecole du Louvre. During her third year she apprenticed with the chief paper conservator at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, working on 36 original drawings by Picasso for a 1981 Munich retrospective. Her keen skills and professional experience have led to a much lauded business, The Restoration Lab, restoring vintage American comic books. She was Sotheby’s restorer of choice for their historic collectible auctions. In 1996, a restored 1938 Action Comics #1 by Susan sold for a record $61,000.00.

Susan’s knowledge of art history and pictorial composition, combined with her workmanship of Japanese papers and an awesome sense of detail, have led to her finest display of expression in Spirit of Flowers. She captures the spirit of nature with authentic dried flowers enveloped in colorful Japanese papers, some of which are hand-painted, and then decoupaged on available handblown or antique glassware. Each piece is one of a kind and signed by the artist.

Susan has also established herself as accomplished photographer, most notably of jazz musicians.
